I created each of my tiles by taking a chunk of clay, using the slab roller to flatten it out, and cutting out the shape of them. I used the sticker/tape resist method by placing stickers and tape to my tile. I then painted glaze over my tile and waited for that to dry. I then took the stickers/tape off. I used wax resist by flicking some wax off of a paintbrush to create stars. After that dried, I painted glaze over it. I used paper resist by cutting out a shape of paper and placing it on my tile by using water. I then used a paintbrush to paint the glaze around it. After that dried, I peeled the paper off. I used water etching by painting 2 layers of wax in the design I wanted. After that dried, I took a damp sponge and scrubbed the tile to create an elevated surface where the wax was. I used the Mishima method by carving a design into my tile and filling it with slip, then scraping off the excess. I used the Sgraffito method by painting 3 layers of glaze onto my tile then waiting for it to dry. Once it dried, I carved a design into it. Images I saw online influenced me to make my tiles. Yes I feel my tiles were successful because they came out looking what I wanted them to. I would like to use the paper resist method for another piece this semester.
